Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area in the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" location. People who don't understand the name mistakenly believe that they are on the West Island extends westward from Montreal. It is actually it is this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward from that city Lachine. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel grew to be a young woman in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. The first goal she had was to become a dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow all of the dance partners she had. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. When I surpassed any male partner, I stopped. A lot of former dancers go on to acting, and in Brugel's situation, it was a suggestion from a high school drama teacher who pushed her in the right direction. Her teacher suggested she audition for the role of Anne for their school's annual production. She tried out and ended up playing the lead in Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. In the 20+ years since Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions across the big and small screens. She attracted the most media attention after she was offered the part in the role of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in Season 1 which was viewed only on occasion.
